How Do America's Biggest Brands Score On Their Sustainability Commitments
"To highlight the limitations of current efforts and persuade more companies to adhere to the new industry standards, UCS analyzed the 10 largest firms in each of three different sectors—packaged food, personal care, and fast food—and scored them on the extent of their global commitments to use palm oil that is deforestation-free, peat-free, and traceably and transparently sourced.
The results for all 30 companies are detailed in our report, Donuts, Deodorant, and Deforestation: Scoring America's Top Brands on Their Palm Oil Commitments. Company rankings are shown in the tables below. For detailed descriptions of our findings and recommendations for each company, click on the company name or visit the Palm Oil Scorecard: Company Profiles page." |
Palm Oil Consumers Action
"Our mission at Palm Oil Consumer Action is to raise awareness with the American consumer regarding the impact our products have on the world and to encourage American corporations to be accountable and responsible if they choose to use palm oil. Simply put, we as consumers vote with our wallets and can decide whether sustainable practices are put into place or whether business goes on as usual and we write off nature for the sake of cheaper consumer goods."
Save the Orangutan
"Orangutans need our help urgently. They are an endangered species and only around 50,000 orangutans are left in the wild (UN's latest estimate from 2007). The single biggest threat to their survival is the rapid destruction of the rainforest, mainly caused by the global demand for palm oil.
We are working to save the orangutan. We do this by rescuing and protecting individual orangutans and by protecting the orangutan’s habitat, the rainforest. By supporting us, you help:
rescue and rehabilitate orangutans;protect existing rainforest and replant destroyed areas; and support the people who depend on the forest for their livelihood."
